Thursday - Intro to Pharaoh Research Report I can analyze an Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh. **Packet passed out and project due November 2nd. HW: Egypt Map due Tuesday Tuesday - Politics of Ancient Egypt -Reading & Foldables Wednesday - Politics of Ancient Egypt HW: Hatshepsut Reading Thursday - Politics of Ancient Egypt -Ramses reading Friday - Religion of Ancient Egypt -"Mummies Made in Egypt" Reading We weren't quite ready for the test on Friday so it's going to be on Monday. Students have been sent home with a test review and materials to study from this weekend. Next week we start Ancient Egypt!
Monday - Mesopotamia Test I can demonstrate knowledge of Mesopotamia material. Tuesday - Introduction to Ancient Egypt I can share what I know about Ancient Egypt. Wednesday - Egypt Vocabulary I can define the vocabulary of Mesopotamia. Thursday - Geography of Ancient Egypt I can show where Egypt is located and describe the land. Friday - Geography of Ancient Egypt I can show where Egypt is located and describe the land. We have been zooming through Mesopotamia and are almost ready for the Chapter test. This week we'll look at the politics of Mesopotamia by studying Hammurabi's Code.

Tuesday: Politics of Mesopotamia I can compare how Hammurabi's Code compares to our laws today. What a short and busy week! Today we celebrated Grandparents Day! It was great to see so many new faces in our school supporting their grandchildren. We briefly touched on 9/11 and read about Mesopotamia.
Something not related to the classroom, although I'm very excited about, is the cookie dough sales starting on Monday! Let me tell ya - these cookies are amazing!!! What a great gift to give for the holidays or even make "homemade" cookies in a snap. The cookies come from Eileen's Colossal Cookies in Lawrence and they are the real deal! Of course, the more you sell, the more TMS makes which helps us all out in the end. Sales start Monday! Tuesday: Kids Discover Magazine I can explain the different groups of people in Mesopotamia. HW: Complete assigned reading on Trade OR Farming and answer questions Wednesday: Trade & Farming in Mesopotamia I can analyze how trade was conducted in Mesopotamia. I can describe how farming patterns impacted citizens. Thursday: Trade & Farming in Mesopotamia Cont. Friday: Social Structure of Mesopotamia I can categorize and describe the social classes of Mesopotamia. Students have been working hard on writing and creating their GRAPES posters this past week. I'm excited to see their finished products on Tuesday! (Remember, no school Monday!)
Now, it's finally time to start our study of Ancient Civilizations which begins with Mesopotamia. Monday - NO SCHOOL Tuesday - Mesopotamia Vocabulary - I can define the vocabulary of Mesopotamia Wednesday - Vocabulary Word Wall - I can define the vocabulary of Mesopotamia Thursday - Mesopotamia Geography Introduction - I can explain key facts about where Mesopotamia was located Friday - Mesopotamia Introduction cont. - I can describe how people in Mesopotamia became domesticated *No homework/tests this week. This past week in class students have been learning the GRAPES acronym and determining how it relates to culture and civilizations. This upcoming week, students will be working on the GRAPES of ME project which may require some family discussions at home and additional work on the poster. The final project is due on Tuesday, September 8th. "I Can" Statement I can relate how GRAPES relates to me.
Next week in Social Studies we'll complete an Interest Survey so I can learn more about you, review the continents around the world to gain an understanding of the locations we'll be studying, and finally, students will learn the meaning of "culture" and how the acronym GRAPES relates to our course.
